Students can choose from 13 business-related student organizations to create professional connections, develop leadership skills and build international friendships. The general business major program is designed for students desiring an extensive understanding of business that spans all facets of the business enterprise, providing them with a broad philosophical and economic perspective about business operations. Most importantly, our customizable General Business major allows you to earn an accredited degree that meets your needs and aspirations. Maybe you are already employed, and know the skills desired by your company. Perhaps you know where you will work, like in a family business, and know its needs.

Suggested Plan Of Study

Students choose classes from accounting, economics, finance and business law, information technology, management, marketing, occupational safety, and supply chain. During the course of their studies, students have the option of changing their major to specialize in a specific area or to remain in the general business major and graduate with a respected business degree from UW-Whitewater. A Safety and Risk Management emphasisis also available for the General Business major. The thirty semester hours of course work must be approved by the academic advisor and should not exceed more than nine semester hours in one academic discipline (e.g. MTKG). The UGA Griffin Campus offers a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in General Business.

Students who meet all requirements for general admission to the university and intend to pursue a B.B.A. will enter the university as a general business major. Students who do not meet GPA requirements to enroll in specialty major course work will remain in general business. The course acquaints students with a variety of supply chain management key concepts, to include purchasing, logistics, competitiveness, location, inventory, forecasting, layout, production and operations management concepts and techniques.

This major provides students exposure to many areas of business, leaving them open to a variety of career choices in businesses of all types. There’s no better way to pad your resumé than to show practical work experience. Each semester, companies come to us looking for qualified students looking to set themselves apart from the pack. If you’re looking to combine professional with social activities, we have more than a dozen faculty-led student groups in the College of Business. This major is intended for business students who wish to gain breadth in skills and knowledge within their undergraduate studies. It is particularly appropriate for students who wish to combine a study of business with a minor or extended coursework in a non-business field. The general business major is also suitable for students who intend to pursue a specialized master’s degree in business or who are interested in law school or other professional fields. The general business major is a more broad-based program than our specialized majors (e.g., marketing or finance) and focuses on building a solid understanding of business fundamentals.
